Twitter Sux And I Will Tell You Why!

There has been a long time without any postings on this blog but finally it’s time again to pump in some real life in this thing again. Even so you might think I’m abusing it to voice my opinion – I don’t really care.

In the recent weeks Twitter becomes more and more hyped not only in our little Internet world, but also in Mainstream Media. Let’s make no mystery out of my opinion – I think it is the greatest bullshit since the invention of Second Life. To make my point this is going to become a trilogy of postings. Let’s start with the first one:

We made here a point in showing that Second Life as some overrated and overhyped stupid idea. Even so these ideas were unpopular at the time; in the end it became true. They even stopped publishing their numbers, so our statistics couldn’t record their downfall.

It’s time again to point out that we are facing a similar situation of hype without substance for Twitter. Twitter sux so let’s start with some more substance.

#1 Cutting Your Foot Of:
Let’s start by their sensational idea of limiting the characters in their postings. It makes absolutely no sense, yes we are living in a fast world, but there are thoughts which need more words and not just some retarded “OMG I LUV #dsfs HAH!” messages. Twitter sux for supporting the idiotisation (yeah I know its no fuckin real word) of society by creating an idea that shorter is better and banalisation is king. From a psychological site it probably enables people to vale banal events in their life even higher, since they can enrich that experience by sharing it with other. But the same is true with booze. Just because everybody tells you how great last night was and how wasted we all got, doesn’t mean you did something great. The other argument might be that the idea of Twitter is not to bring out brilliant thoughts. It’s more about quantity not quality or to bridge the time between quality outputs. Some truth to it, without doubt, but the point is: Why should I give a crap about banality in other peoples life? We have enough gossip blogs around, why should I care when my janitor is taking a bath or jumping on his bus? There is no reason at all. And there will never be. The “away” message on instant messenger or irc chats had a similar function. But it was and is useful since it is relevant to the other person using it. If I want to ask Bob something and his away message tells me he is fishing than there is a high level of relevancy. If my janitor is “tweeting” that he is having dinner with his wife than this is absolutely bullshit and shows that Twitter sucks (the same is true with Aston Kutcher).
